Food Safety Role & Responsibility

As an individual, the incumbent must understand the Food Safety Statement, complete the required training, perform work assignments in accordance with training, and display an acceptable level of competency with all Quality Assurance/Safety/Security policies and training requirements. Areas of food safety training will include, but are not limited to, GMP, HACCP, facility security, visitor policy, and mandatory safety training. The individual must also request additional and/or refresher training if needed to perform effectively in specific areas of responsibility.

Summary

The Maintenance Assistant is responsible for safely maintaining, repairing, replacing, and assisting in modifying all processing, packaging, and facility equipment with optimal quality and efficiency.

Job Function Statements - Essential Functions

• Repair and maintain machinery and mechanical equipment, such as motors, pumps, conveyors, belts, fans, air conditioners, etc.
• Disassemble machines, repair or replace broken parts.
• Adjust functional parts of mechanical devices as necessary.
• Clean and lubricate parts.
• Order replacement parts.
• Inspect completed repairs.
• Perform all work in accordance with established safety procedures.
• Requisition new parts and equipment.
• The employee is required to lift up to 75 pounds.
• The employee will be required to learn and change blades as needed.
• The employee will need to learn the Fresh Rinse and Prominent systems.
• The employee must wear cut-resistant gloves, hardhat, hearing protection, and steel-toed shoes, following all GMP rules and regulations.
• Complete any duties assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor or Maintenance Manager.

Required Qualifications/Skills

• Ability to apply basic skills and develop advanced skills using tools and equipment appropriate for the position or specialization.
• Resolve routine questions and problems, referring more complex issues to higher levels.
• Work under direct supervision following standard procedures and instructions.

Physical requirements include standing for extended periods, walking, reaching, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, bending, and crawling. Must be able to climb stairs and ladders, and occasionally sit. Capable of pushing, pulling, lifting, and moving 75 pounds. Must operate light motorized equipment, hand, and power tools safely.

The work environment may be wet, cold, hot, at heights, or outdoors, with moderate to loud noise levels requiring hearing protection. Must be able to read, write, and speak English, work with Word and Excel, possess basic math skills, and operate the CMMS system proficiently.

Other Desired Qualifications/Skills

• Use of a multimeter and measurement instruments.
• Assist in fabricating/modifying parts using shop equipment and sanitary welding procedures.
• Certification in forklift, aerial lift, and boom lift operation.
• Ability to read manuals and understand technical information.
• Experience in the food processing industry.

Experience: 1-2 years in a similar role preferred.

Education/Training: High School diploma or equivalent required; technical/vocational training preferred.
