Job summary

Morton Salt is seeking a Maintenance Apprentice II to support the maintenance team in a salt production plant. You will assist experienced mechanics across multiple tasks, work on processor and mill equipment, and contribute to safe, reliable operations.

The role emphasizes learning various trades, completing apprenticeship coursework, and maintaining high safety standards while supporting ongoing maintenance programs.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Successful completion of apprenticeship coursework per program guidelines.
• Basic math, reading, and writing skills.
• Must have working knowledge of welding, cutting, and general mechanics.
• Must be safety-oriented and exhibit safe work habits.
• Punctual and reliable; good attendance required.
• Able to use hand tools and communicate effectively.
• Team-player with good behaviors; self-motivated to learn.

Responsibilities

• Assist experienced mechanics in troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing processor, mill, and mobile equipment.
• Learn and perform tasks across trades including pneumatics, welding and cutting, metal fabrication, carpentry, plumbing, and pipefitting.
• Complete all assigned tasks safely per SOPs and regulations.
• Champion safety and maintain a safe environment for employees and visitors.
• Collaborate with senior mechanics to troubleshoot and implement solutions.
• Support plant programs such as reliability, preventative maintenance, and housekeeping.
• Comply with health, safety, environmental, and food safety policies.
