Job summary

Morton Salt, Inc. is seeking a skilled maintenance technician to keep our processing equipment running safely and efficiently. You will troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair a wide range of mill and plant machinery, while following SOPs and safety policies.

Ideal candidates have 4 years of maintenance experience or equivalent schooling, strong mechanical skills, and a teamwork mindset. We value reliability, safety, and the willingness to learn new skills in a dynamic industrial environment.

Qualifications

• 4 years of maintenance service and/or schooling; technical schooling or associate degree.
• Basic math, reading, and writing skills.
• Working knowledge of welding, cutting, and general mechanics.
• Safety-oriented with good attendance.
• Team-player and eager to learn.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair: processor, mill, and mobile equipment, and fire protection systems.
• Complete tasks safely per SOPs, policies, and regulations; champion safety.
• Apply trades including welding, cutting, metal fabrication, carpentry, plumbing and piping, and machine work.
• Support maintenance programs such as reliability, preventative maintenance, and housekeeping.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

A list of the principal functions of the job to include an action-oriented description of each activity along with the desired outcome against which some measurement of performance can be applied.

• Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair: processor equipment, mill equipment, all mobile equipment, harvest and road salt equipment, and fire protection systems.
• Complete all tasks in a safe manner per SOPs, company policies, and regulations. Champion safety and create a safe environment for employees and visitors.
• Apply a broad spectrum of trades including pneumatics, welding and cutting, metal fabrication, carpentry, plumbing and pipefitting, and machine work (lathe, mill, etc.).
• Support all programs in the plant such as the reliability, preventative maintenance, and housekeeping.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Required

• 4 years of maintenance service and/or schooling. Can be a combination of successful completion of technical school or associate’s degree and/or related experience.
• Basic math, reading, and writing skills
• Must have working knowledge of welding, cutting, and general mechanics
• Must be safety-oriented and exhibit safe work habits
• Punctual and reliable; good attendance required
• Team-player
• Self-motivated and eager to learn new skills

Preferred

• Prefer certification to use elevated work platforms, forklifts, and cranes.

Preferred experience in heavy equipment

Must be able to operate various types of machinery. Physical requirements include lifting 50 pounds, bending, stooping, and climbing stairs. Must wear PPE including hard hat, gloves, hearing protection, safety shoes, protective eyewear, and long pants/ sleeved shirt.
