SUMMARY: Helps maintain physical plants in a condition of operating excellence so that full use of them may be made at all times.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Other duties as may be assigned)

• General Maintenance & Repairs: Performs various maintenance tasks inside and outside the physical plant, including painting, application of stains and protective coatings, surface preparation for painting, minor electrical and plumbing repairs as needed.
• Grounds & Exterior Operations: Performs district-wide grounds maintenance work including, handling materials and supplies, moving equipment, operating power-driven equipment, truck driving, snow plowing, salting, and miscellaneous marking of playgrounds and parking areas.
• Facility Equipment Service: Performs normal operator adjustments and service to facility operational equipment such as, but not limited to, compressors, boilers, unit ventilators, and fans, and maintains records on operational and maintenance activities.
• Supply & Inventory Management: Recommends supplies and equipment for purchase and maintains the inventory of district-owned equipment, tools, and painting supplies.
• Safety & Code Compliance: Maintains all safety and code requirements of State, local, and Board of Education guidelines.
• Facility & Visitor Support: Assists visiting public utilizing the facilities with directions within the building or in obtaining and setting up needed equipment and/or material.

PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS

• Regular Attendance: Maintain consistent and reliable attendance as an essential function of this position. Notify supervisor promptly of any absences or scheduling conflicts, particularly regarding on-call responsibilities.
• Continuous Learning: Stay current with mechanical system technology, painting techniques, safety protocols, and equipment operation. Participate in manufacturer training, professional development opportunities, and certification programs as provided by the district.
• Team Collaboration: Work cooperatively with other maintenance personnel, custodial staff, contractors, and administrators to ensure effective facility operations and support the educational environment.

QualificationsQUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

• Supervisory Responsibilities: None.
• Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Experience in facility/mechanical systems maintenance and painting, preferably in educational or institutional settings.
• Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, technical manuals, and procedure guides. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees, contractors, and community members.
• Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Understanding of electrical calculations, pressure measurements, and mechanical tolerances.
• Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
• Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Valid driver's license with a good driving record.
• Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to pass a district written and physical test. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies. Knowledge of welding, machining, and fabrication techniques.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls, and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms (such as to operate vibrating machinery). The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee frequently must squat, stoop or kneel, reach above the head, and reach forward. The employee continuously uses hand strength to grasp tools and climb onto ladders. The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk more than the average person while performing the duties of this job.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, such as toolboxes, equipment parts, paint buckets, and supplies. Occasionally, the employee will lift and/or move up to 90 pounds, such as motors, pumps, and heavy mechanical components. The employee will sometimes push/pull items such as equipment carts, scaffolds, tables, machinery, and cabinets. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works indoors and outdoors, near or with moving mechanical vehicles and equipment. The employee may be required to work on ladders, scaffolding, bucket lifter equipment, or in building maintenance tunnels. The employee may frequently work with toxic or caustic chemicals such as paint coatings, petroleum products, degreasers, gases, fumes, sprays, and non-household dust. The employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions and is exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints. The noise level in the work environment ranges from moderate to loud, and occasionally very loud.
