Responsibilities

• Perform routine inspections and maintenance of school facilities.
• Repair and maintain building systems (plumbing, electrical, HVAC).
• Address minor carpentry, painting, and masonry tasks.
• Maintain cleanliness of maintenance areas and vehicles.
• Monitor safety and security, including safety equipment like fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, and emergency lighting.
• Maintain school grounds and outdoor facilities; handle snow removal.
• Set up and break down furniture and equipment for events.
• Maintain inventory of maintenance tools, supplies and equipment; restock as needed.
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repair activities.

Job Summary:

We are seeking a reliable and skilled School Maintenance Worker to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the school facilities are safe, clean, and in good repair. This role involves performing routine maintenance tasks, addressing repair needs, and supporting the overall operations of the school.

Key Responsibilities:

• General Maintenance:
  
  
  
  • Perform routine inspections and maintenance of school facilities, including classrooms, hallways, restrooms, offices, and common areas.
  
  
  • Repair and maintain building structure, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems as needed.
  
  
  • Address and resolve minor carpentry, painting, and masonry tasks.
  
  
  
  


• Cleaning and Upkeep:
  
  
  
  • Ensure all maintenance related areas and vehicles are clean, well-maintained, and presentable.
  
  
  • Perform related cleaning tasks, such as sweeping, mopping, dusting, and trash removal.
  
  
  
  


• Safety and Security:
  
  
  
  • Monitor and ensure the safety and security of the school premises.
  
  
  • Perform routine checks and maintenance of safety equipment, including fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, and emergency lighting.
  
  
  • Respond promptly to any safety or security concerns.
  
  
  
  


• Grounds keeping:
  
  
  
  • Maintain the school grounds, including mowing lawns, trimming hedges, and removing debris.
  
  
  • Ensure playgrounds and outdoor facilities are safe and in good condition.
  
  
  • Clear snow and ice from walkways and driveways during winter months.
  
  
  
  


• Event Support:
  
  
  
  • Set up and break down furniture and equipment for school events, meetings, and activities.
  
  
  • Assist with the arrangement of seating, audio-visual equipment, and other necessary items.
  
  
  
  


• Inventory Management:
  
  
  
  • Maintain an inventory of maintenance tools, supplies and equipment..
  
  
  • Purchase, order and restock parts and supplies as needed.
  
  
  
  


• Record Keeping:
  
  
  
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repair activities.
  
  
  • Report any major maintenance or repair needs to the operations administration.
  
  
  
  


• Building Management Systems:
  
  
  
  • Maintain building systems, schedules and related equipment to maximize building efficiency.
  
  
  
  

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.


• 5 years of proven experience in maintenance or a related field.


• Hands on experience with plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, and general maintenance.


• Ability to operate related equipment and tools.


• Strong problem-solving skills and very strong attention to detail.


• Ability to perform the essential functions of the job.


• Ability to work without direct supervision, excellent time management and organizational skills.


• Strong communication skills using various methods.


• Ability to work well with staff and students.


• All other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Working Conditions:

• Full-time position; may require occasional evening or weekend work.


• Indoor and outdoor work in various weather conditions.


• Physical demands include lifting, bending, climbing, and standing for extended periods.
