Job summary

Ryerson in Shelbyville, KY is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic for the 2nd shift to maintain production and material handling equipment, ensuring safe operation and on-time delivery. You will support capital projects and coordinate with vendors for parts and services.

The ideal candidate has 1–3 years of maintenance experience, PLC knowledge, ability to read blueprints, and a readiness to enroll in our apprenticeship program during onboarding.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 1–3 years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing facility.
• Working knowledge of electricity, welding and burning, and hydraulic repair.
• PLC knowledge and reading blueprints.
• Must be enrolled in a registered apprenticeship program during onboarding.
• Ability to pass a physical requirements exam.

Responsibilities

• Always works in a safe and efficient manner.
• Repairs and maintains plant equipment in an efficient manner on a daily basis.
• Creates and utilizes preventive maintenance program and keeps files up-to-date.
• Coordinates outside maintenance services as required.
• Orders parts as required to keep equipment operating in a safe/efficient basis.
• Follows all Company ISO policies and procedures.
• Keeps work areas clean and organized.

As a Maintenance Mechanic you are responsible for a wide range of activities in the area of overall Plant and Facilities maintenance. The position requires the ability to be flexible, self-directed and have an understanding of production requirements in a service orientated company. The main focus of the position is to keep the production and material handling equipment safely maintained to maximize efficiency, ensure a safe operation and ensure on time delivery of product. Assistance with Capital Project/new equipment planning, dealing with vendors for parts and services are also a requirement.

Requirements

• Working knowledge of electricity, welding & burning, hydraulic repair
• PLC knowledge and understanding
• Must be able to read blueprints and also order parts and supplies
• Physical ability to pass physical requirements exam for vision, hearing, and mobility
• Successful candidates will be enrolled in a registered apprenticeship program as part of their onboarding
