Job description

Mainframe/COBOL Developer

As our Mainframe Developer, you will be a key member of our insurance product team, responsible for maintaining, upgrading, and supporting the organization’s insurance business systems. The team is poised for exciting growth as we transition our insurance application to a cloud-based platform and modernize our technology infrastructure.

What You’ll Do

1. Make system updates to the Mainframe Insurance application and assist with the migration of insurance business from Mainframe to Guidewire P&C Insurance application.
2. Refine system change requirements, participate in design sessions, and collaborate with team members across diverse roles and skill levels.
3. Provide application support in a production environment on a rotational schedule, including day and night shifts.

What You’ll Need

1. Experience with COBOL programming in a Z/OS Mainframe environment.
2. Ability to analyze programs and understand application states.
3. Proficiency with COBOL, DB2, JCL, CICS, ISPW, and other mainframe development tools. Eagerness to learn and share knowledge.
4. Flexibility to work in a hybrid environment, typically three days in the office and two days remote, with schedules updated quarterly.

What We Prefer

1. Experience working in Agile teams, participating in daily standups, sprints, and meeting deployment deadlines.
2. Proficiency with mainframe tools such as Syncsort, Xpediter, SAR, FileAid, and Abend-Aid.
3. Previous experience in the Insurance or Property-Casualty domain.
4. Willingness to learn new skills and adapt to new technologies.
