Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a skilled IBM Mainframe Capacity Analyst to monitor z/OS environments, analyze performance trends, and produce capacity reports. The role involves using RMF/SMF, CA-MICS, MXG, SAS, and related tools to identify bottlenecks and optimization opportunities.

You will support workload tuning, WLM service classes, and hardware coordination with vendors, while adhering to ITSM processes and change governance standards. Strong analytical and communication skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting IBM mainframe environments, including z/OS operations and capacity planning.
• Working knowledge of mainframe performance and accounting data sources (RMF, SMF, CA-MICS, MXG).
• Experience using SAS for data manipulation and trend analysis.
• Understanding of z/OS architecture, workload management, and core utilities including SDSF and TSO/E.
• Experience with incident, problem, and change management in an enterprise IT environment.

Responsibilities

• Analyze mainframe capacity, utilization, and performance trends using RMF, SMF, CA-MICS, MXG, SAS, and related tools.
• Produce and maintain daily, weekly, monthly, and ad hoc performance and capacity reports to support operational decision-making and long-range planning.
• Identify bottlenecks, performance issues, and optimization opportunities involving CPU, memory, disk I/O, workload management, and coupling facility activity.
• Support workload analysis and tuning across z/OS environments, including WLM service classes, initiators, and job flow behavior.
• Review and maintain knowledge of LPAR configurations, processor capacity, memory constraints, channel configurations, and overall system architecture.
• Provide mainframe hardware support by coordinating with vendors and internal teams on microcode installation, hardware fixes, and device changes.
• Assist with incident, problem, and change management activities through ITSM processes, including ServiceNow.
• Support software and configuration changes through Endevor procedures and change governance standards.
• Use diagnostic and monitoring tools like Strobe, Syslog, OPSLOG, SDSF, and TSO/E utilities to investigate system behavior.
• Collaborate with infrastructure, engineering, operations, and project teams to support service reliability and mainframe modernization.
• Maintain familiarity with enterprise standards, reporting repositories, and project documentation sources.
