Job summary

The State of South Carolina's Department of Corrections is seeking a mailroom supervisor to receive, sort, and distribute mail, supervise staff, and maintain accurate records. You will coordinate postal services and ensure compliance with policies and procedures.

This role requires knowledge of filing systems, use of postal meters and scales, and the ability to report transactions to the finance unit. Successful candidates complete four weeks of basic training upon hire.

Qualifications

• High school diploma and work experience in postal, courier, or delivery operations.
• Knowledge of policies, regulations and procedures for handling mail.
• Ability to supervise mailroom staff.
• Familiarity with filing systems and maintenance of office records.

Responsibilities

• Receives, sorts, and distributes incoming mail; processes outgoing mail.
• Coordinates agency postal services.
• Supervises employees engaged in mail handling tasks.
• Maintains records of insured and registered mail; maintains billing records.
• Corresponding detailed records; reports transactions to SCDC financial accounting branch.
• Ensures inmate legal mail is received and distributed per policies and procedures.
• Assists with coordinating postage meter maintenance and replenishment and postage meter monthly summary reports.
• Performs mailroom duties in the absence of the postal director.
