Job summary

The State of South Carolina Department of Corrections is seeking a mailroom operator to manage inmate postal operations under minimal supervision.

You will receive, sort, and distribute mail, process outgoing mail, and ensure compliance with USPS rules. You will liaise with postal officials and staff, generate daily/monthly reports, and handle inmate mail requests. A 4-week training and notary within 3 months are required.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma and work experience in postal, courier or delivery operations.
• An associate degree or higher may be substituted for the required work experience.
• Must become a notary within three (3) months of accepting position.
• Must successfully complete four (4) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

Responsibilities

• Coordinates institutional postal operation for the inmate population.
• Performs standard routine procedures to conform with U.S. postal regulations and SCDC policies; assists in maintaining accountability for funds and money instruments of inmates.
• Acts as liaison between U.S. postal officials and institutional personnel; handles official postal business of the institution.
• Receives, sorts, and distributes incoming mail.
• Processes inmates' outgoing mail.
• Operates CRT in the sale of postage and E.H. Cooper requests.
• Prepares mailroom requisitions and daily/monthly reports; handles staff inmate mail requests.
