Responsibilities

  • Perform tasks in the Bindery Department under the supervision of the Bindery Manager.
  • Insert material for printing or addressing using inkjet and inserters.
  • Accept and check containers of mail or parcels before distribution.
  • Adjust guides, rollers, and weighing machines to ensure proper operation.
  • Inspect mail machine output for defects and address root causes.
  • Lift and unload containers of mail or parcels to be transported to sortation stations.
  • Place outgoing items into sacks or bins with appropriate destination tags.
  • Read production orders to determine item types and sizes to be mailed.
  • Clear jams in sortation equipment and handle envelopes and packages as needed.
  • Review job jackets to determine components and settings for equipment.

What You’ll Be Doing

While working under the direction of the Bindery Manager, Mailing Setup Operator has overall responsibility for performing all tasks and elements of work in the operation functions of the Bindery Department.

Responsibilities
  • Insert material for printing or addressing e.g. Inkjet and inserters.
  • Accept and check containers of mail or parcels prior to distributions mailers, couriers, and contractors, and USPS.
  • Adjust guides, rollers, loose card inserters, and weighing machines.
  • Inspect mail machine output for defects; determine how to eliminate causes of any defects.
  • Lift and unload containers of mail or parcels onto equipment for transportation to sortation stations.
  • Place incoming or outgoing letters or packages into sacks or bins based on destination or type, and place identifying tags on sacks or bins.
  • Read production orders to determine types and sizes of items scheduled for mailing.
  • Remove containers of sorted mail/parcels and transfer them to designated areas according to established procedures.
  • Verify that items are addressed correctly, marked with the proper postage, and in suitable condition for processing.
  • Clear jams in sortation equipment.
  • Seal or open envelopes, by hand or by using machines.
  • Wrap packages or bundles by hand.
  • Review job jackets to determine components, settings, and adjustments for equipment.
  • Remove defective or substandard materials from machines and readjust machine components so that product meets standards.
  • Adjust machine controls to alter position, alignment, speed, or pressure.
