Job summary

The Machinist - Intermediate at S&C Electric Company is responsible for setting up and operating both CNC and manual machines to produce precision parts for our power grid equipment. You will read blueprints, select tools, and ensure parts meet specifications while maintaining documentation and quality standards.

We offer 6:00 am to 2:30 pm shifts with potential overtime, a team-focused environment, and opportunities to grow technical skills in a 100% employee-owned company.

Qualifications

• 3+ years experience setting up and operating manual and CNC punching, cutting, forming machines, or press brakes.
• Ability to use hand tools and precision measuring instruments (scales, height gauge, micrometers, calipers).
• Knowledge of machine controls and programs (G and M codes) with ability to set up machines for new jobs.
• Ability to read blueprints.
• Strong self-motivation to work independently and meet material requests.
• Good written and verbal communication to coordinate with team.
• Basic computer skills for internal applications.
• Strong math skills for quantities and measurements.
• Ability to follow Health, Safety & Environment procedures.
• Excellent attention to detail and quality standards.

Responsibilities

• Operate manual and CNC machines to fabricate parts per standard specifications.
• Set up machines with tools and materials and reconfigure for new jobs.
• Interpret blueprints and drawings to meet part specifications.
• Perform basic routine maintenance and document issues.
• Use overhead crane and handling equipment to position materials safely.
• Complete first piece inspection and document measurements.
• Maintain accurate fabrication records and track job orders.
• Deburr metal parts using hand/power tools for safe handling.
• Mentor junior team members to develop skills.
• Adhere to department targets and safety standards.
