The estimated hourly base pay rate for this position is $22.25 per hour. This role is eligible for S&C’s annual short-term incentive bonus, subject to eligibility criteria.

Machinist Overview

The Machinist – Basic is responsible for operating a variety of machines, including CNC and manually controlled equipment, to produce precision parts for S&C products. The Machinist interprets blueprints to determine part specifications and uses various machines to craft parts. They also complete basic documentation and maintenance tasks to ensure processes run smoothly and materials move as needed.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate manual and CNC machines to fabricate parts according to standard specifications.
• Set up machines with the appropriate materials to complete the job.
• Interpret blueprints, drawings, and other technical specifications to understand requirements for basic parts and ensure accurate fabrication.
• Perform basic routine maintenance on machines and tools, including cleaning and reporting mechanical/electrical issues to department leaders.
• Use an overhead crane and other material handling equipment to safely position materials for machining.
• Complete first-piece inspection of parts using measurement tools to confirm material, quality, and specifications before machining.
• Maintain accurate records of fabrication activities, including tracking job order progress and documenting corrective actions needed for the machine, part, or process.
• Deburr metal parts using hand and/or power tools, ensuring materials are safe to handle and ready for further processing.
• Meet department targets and adhere to quality and safety standards.
• Understand and comply with all applicable Company policies and rules.

Requirements

What You’ll Need To Succeed

Job Requirements (minimum):

• 1+ year of demonstrated experience operating manual and computer-controlled punching, cutting, forming machines, or press brakes.
• Ability to use hand tools and precision measuring instruments (scales, calipers).
• Basic knowledge of machine controls and programs.
• Ability to read blueprints.
• Ability to work independently and meet material request requirements.
• Good communication skills (written and verbal) to articulate information to team members in various production support departments.
• Basic computer skills to review and respond to requests via internal applications.
• Basic math skills to calculate quantities, weights, and measurements.
• Good interpersonal and organizational skills; ability to follow Health Safety & Environment procedures and report concerns promptly.

Preferred

• 1 year of machinist and manufacturing experience is a plus
• Relevant work experience
• Experience with setup and operation of computer-controlled punching, cutting, forming machines, or press brakes

Major Physical Demands

• Standing for extended periods; occasional walking.
• Frequent lifting of items weighing 5–50 lbs.
• Walking moderate distances; carrying items 5–25 lbs.
• Pushing/pulling with electric hand trucks for moving parts; frequent bending and crouching; reaching from above the shoulders to below the knees.
• Handling parts and tools; most tasks performed standing with intermittent walking.
