FLSmidth in Sioux City, Iowa is currently hiring for a Lathe Machinist in our Machine Shop.

Duties include but are not limited to:

• Promote a "safety first" culture by active participation at company safety meetings, continuous evaluation of work site for potential hazards or unsafe actions, use Personal Protective Equipment "PPE" appropriate to the work to be performed and report near misses, accidents or injuries (no matter the severity) and identify unsafe equipment/work per company guidelines or procedures
• Operate non-CNC machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, and grinders to produce metal parts.
• Carry out a variety of activities with particular focus on the following tasks
  • Setting up and making adjustments to regulate factors such as temperature, pressure, flow, and reactions of materials
  • Calculate where to cut or bore
  • Machine/shape steel, mostly cast or forged steel
  • Determine material removal amounts
  • Select tools and materials for the job
  • Plan the sequence of cutting and finishing operations
  • Mark workpieces to indicate cut locations
  • Position workpieces on the drill press, lathe, or milling machine
  • Monitor and control feed rate and speed
  • Ensure workpieces are properly lubricated and cooled
  • Regulate workpiece temperature
  • Detect problems by listening for specific sounds
  • Check work accuracy against blueprints and specifications
• Operate within general work instructions and apply judgment to achieve the required output
• Adhere to company policies, work procedures, guidelines, and job site analysis
• Attend required training classes, including specialized training, and provide opportunities for field personnel development
• Perform special assignments and additional tasks as assigned

Internal / External Cooperation

• Report directly to the Machine Shop Manager.
• Interact professionally with company employees and maintain effective communication
• Collaborate with all company employees demonstrating professionalism, commitment, and good work habits
