Overview

CAES by Honeywell is seeking a Machinist II/III in San Diego, CA to set up machining equipment, edit NC programs for fabricating metal parts to precise tolerances, and interpret blueprints and drawings. Responsibilities include determining setup methods, using hand tools and precision instruments, performing shop computations, and inspecting machined parts for quality and conformance. The role involves moderate complexity work requiring judgment and problem-solving.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS and DUTIES:

  • Operate manual mill and lathe, set up machines, and produce semi-routine parts according to blueprints. Upload/download and edit programs using DNC and CNC software. Inspect parts for quality using precision instruments and CMMs.
  • Verify paperwork, ensure part and drawing numbers match, inspect parts, and rework as needed. Package materials following prescribed processes.
  • Write semi-routine programs using Proto-Trak or similar software, and operate CNC machines selecting proper tooling and fixturing.
  • Design and fabricate parts, tooling, and fixtures; perform trigonometry calculations for machining angles and distances.
  • Perform cleaning and light deburring of parts according to specifications.
  • Maintain equipment and workspace, identify malfunctions, and perform diagnostics and repairs.
  • Participate in safety training and support Lean initiatives (5S, Kaizen, problem-solving).
  • Engage in team meetings and support team activities.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Minimum:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least one year of experience as a Proto-Trak and lathe machinist or two years as a conventional or CNC machinist, with attention to detail and manual coordination.
  • Must have US export law compliance, being a 'US Person' or eligible for export approval.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain security clearance.

Preferred:

  • Associate’s Degree.
  • Two years’ experience as a Proto-Trak and lathe machinist; four years as a conventional or CNC machinist.
  • Strong communication skills, ability to read blueprints, and basic G-code programming knowledge.
  • Knowledge of safe equipment use, safety procedures, and intermediate math skills including geometry and trigonometry.
  • Time management, organizational skills, and a proactive, accountable attitude.

Hourly pay range: $24.05 - $38.14 in San Diego, CA. Benefits include health insurance, life/disability insurance, 401K, paid holidays, and vacation.
