Job summary

Trillium Professional has a direct hire opportunity for a Manual CNC Machinist in the Chicago area. The pay rate is up to $40/hr with a 1st shift, 7am–5pm schedule.

Responsibilities include reading drawings, setting up and operating manual and CNC machines, editing G-code, and performing quality inspections with precision tools. Qualifications require 3–5 years of CNC experience and Fanuc control familiarity.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of CNC machine operation in heavy manufacturing.
• Fanuc control experience required.
• Ability to set up own machine and read complex drawings.
• Strong reading of geometric tolerancing and dimensions.
• Basic math including geometry and algebra for fabrication calculations.
• Experience with precision measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, indicators).
• Knowledge of tool holders, cutting tools, inserts used on machines.

Responsibilities

• Read complex drawings, blueprints, and CAD/CAM files to determine dimensions and tolerances.
• Set up, align, and operate manual and CNC machines (lathes, mills, grinders, presses).
• Enter or edit G-code, adjust feeds, speeds, and depths of cut; perform tool proofing.
• Inspect finished parts with micrometers, calipers, and dial indicators for conformance.
• Diagnose mechanical or programming issues, perform minor repairs and routine maintenance.

Key Responsibilities

• Blueprint & CAD Interpretation: Read and analyze complex engineering drawings, blueprints, schematics, and CAD/CAM files to determine dimensions, tolerances, and operational sequences.
• Machine Setup & Operation: Set up, secure, and align work holding devices, attachments, and cutting tools on manual and CNC lathes, milling machines, grinders, or presses.
• Programming & Adjustments: Enter or edit G-code instructions, adjust feed rates, speeds, and depths of cut, and perform tool proofing on initial production runs.
• Quality Control & Inspection: Inspect finished workpieces using precision measurement tools like micrometers, calipers, and dial indicators to ensure strict adherence to specifications.
• Maintenance & Troubleshooting: Diagnose mechanical or programming issues during production, perform minor equipment repairs, and conduct routine machine maintenance.

Qualifications

• 3-5 years’ experience operating CNC Machines in a heavy manufacturing environment.
• Fanuc Control Experience
• Be able to create your own set-up
• Advanced knowledge of reading drawings and specifications with an advanced understanding of geometric tolerancing and dimensions.
• Must possess basic math skills to include but not limited to adding, subtracting, multiplication, division, geometry and algebra for the purpose of calculating material fabrication
• Knowledge and application of precision measuring instruments and the application of such instruments, to include but not limited to calipers, ID & OD micrometers, depth gages, indicators and scales.
• Knowledge of various tool holders, cutting tools, boring bars, and inserts used on various machines.
