Caterpillar Inc. in East Peoria, IL, seeks a Machine Rebuild & Technical Capability Specialist to lead complex rebuilds on critical assets. You will work on the shop floor with maintenance teams, engineers, vendors, and OEMs to deliver safe, reliable asset restoration and strong technical discipline.

This role emphasizes hands-on leadership, mentoring technicians, developing standards and checklists, and ensuring lifecycle decisions align with production needs and reliability goals.

Qualifications

• Top candidates will have experience with machine rebuilds and major equipment overhauls.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, electrical systems, controls, automation and safety.
• Experience in heavy manufacturing and maintenance strategy development.
• Root cause analysis, failure analysis, and reliability improvement experience.
• Experience working with OEMs, suppliers, and maintenance providers.
• Mentoring technicians or leading technical teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead machine rebuild planning, scope, execution, startup, and stabilization.
• Perform teardown, inspection, repair, rebuild, installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting on equipment.
• Coordinate rebuild work across mechanical, electrical, controls, automation, and safety systems.
• Develop work plans, checklists, schedules, risk assessments, and execution strategies.
• Support decisions on repair/rebuild/replace/retire of assets.
• Ensure safety, quality, and reliability during rebuilds and align with production needs.
• Provide technical leadership during complex rebuilds and critical troubleshooting.
• Mentor technicians and develop internal capability with rebuild knowledge.
