Primary Purpose Of This Position

Fabricate parts for structural fabrication, Service Center, and miscellaneous steel assemblies per cutting lists, shop drawings, and DWS quality requirements.

Essential Job Functions
  1. Identify steel shapes, sizes, and mill tolerances.
  2. Fabricate materials as trained and instructed.
  3. Fabricate beams, tubes, angle, channel, bar grating, pipe, plate, or rounds according to dimensions on cut lists and shop drawings, adhering to AISC code requirements and machine capabilities.
  4. Make adjustments to machines to ensure accurate dimensions.
  5. Identify errors and discrepancies in cut lists and shop drawings early in the process.
  6. Operate forklifts, jib cranes, overhead cranes, conveyors, and transfers to move materials.
  7. Perform other duties as assigned by management.
  8. Attend all required meetings.
  9. Work reliably and consistently scheduled hours at designated locations.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  1. Ability to read, write, and perform higher arithmetic computations.
  2. Understand and follow semi-complicated verbal and written instructions.
  3. Effective communication with co-workers, supervisors, and managers.
  4. Work under periodic supervision, setting priorities for job completion.
  5. Skill in using auto measurer, tape measure, or ruler.
  6. Pass a Drake-Williams Steel test covering shop drawing interpretation, calculations, and basic geometry.
  7. Interpret and utilize cutting lists, shop orders, and drawings.
  8. Use a computer for managing cut-lists and inventory.
  9. Demonstrate pride, attention to detail, and safety consciousness.
  10. Operate forklifts and overhead cranes safely, understanding industry signals.
  11. Perform minor mechanical tasks on machines.
  12. Follow inventory procedures and multi-task effectively.
  13. Physical demands include frequent standing, walking, lifting, reaching, and other manual tasks, with specific weight and frequency requirements.
Non-Material Handling Demands
  1. Work 40 hours weekly, with potential overtime and weekend hours.
  2. Sufficient hearing and visual acuity to perform duties safely.
  3. Occasional exposure to environmental conditions and hazards, with PPE required.
Tools and Machines
  • Tools: Pencil, square, tape measure, markers, hammer, brushes, grinder, sledgehammer, hooks, wrenches, pry bar, clamps, cutters, chains.
  • Machines: Saw, cranes, pallets, transfer equipment, brake, blaster, punch, shear, forklifts.
Experience and Education
  • Minimum of six months experience in a steel manufacturing environment.
