Progress Rail, a Caterpillar Company, is hiring for a First Shift role in Sidney, NE, focused on breaking down railcar wheelsets, reconditioning axles, and mounting new wheels. Precision and safety are critical as wheelsets support nationwide rail travel.

The role requires reading micrometers and calipers, following procedures, and maintaining accurate production records. A High School Diploma or GED is required, with overtime and various shift possibilities to meet production needs.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Operate overhead cranes to move wheelsets and components.
• Break down railcar wheelsets and recondition axles for new sets.
• Mount new wheels to reconditioned axles as part of wheelset reconditioning.
• Recondition wheelsets and press bearings on wheelsets as required.
• Move material and maintain a clean, safe work area.

First Shift position operating machines that allow us to break down railcar wheelsets, recondition axles to be used for new sets, mount new wheels to reconditioned axles, recondition wheelsets, moving material and press new bearings on wheelsets that have been reconditioned or new sets. Attention to detail is very important in this line of work as these sets are put under trains that travel the nation and they need to be worked properly so they allow the trains to travel safely.
