Job summary

Progress Rail, a Caterpillar company, is seeking a skilled worker for removal, fabrication, fitment and welding of railcar parts in Sidney, Nebraska. Starting pay is $21.00 per hour, with six skills tests in the first 90 days that can raise pay by $0.25 per test.

A $3,000 first‑year bonus is also offered. This safety‑sensitive, hands‑on role requires reading blueprints and technical drawings, operating oxy/fuel torches and arc welders, and using power and pneumatic tools.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Ability to read blueprints and technical drawings.
• Mechanical aptitude and ability to read precision instruments.
• Experience with hand and power tools including welding equipment.
• Able to lift up to 50 lbs and work at heights.

Responsibilities

• Removal, fabrication, fitment and welding of railcar parts, components and structures.
• Repair or replace worn mechanical components.
• Fabricate, assemble or disassemble manufactured products.
• Read blueprints, technical drawings, tape measure.
• Read and understand work orders and record repairs correctly.
• Follow safety policies and PPE requirements.

• Work around and operate overhead cranes and mobile equipment;

• Work on varied surfaces (concrete floors, gravel, rail car floors);
• Constant standing, walking;
• Frequent bending, crouching, stooping, kneeling, squatting, overhead reaching, climbing ladders;
• Must be able to push, pull and lift up to 50 lbs.
