S-Head Machine Operator
2nd shift - $19.25/hour
On-the-job training provided.
Objectives:
Perform processing operations and support the S-Head Department in compliance with Merit Brass policies and procedures.
Uphold the Merit Brass corporate mission statement, acting with urgency and embodying core values.
Maintain professionalism, ethics, and respectfulness while exercising teamwork.
Responsibilities:
- Support manufacturing by meeting or exceeding efficiency and productivity goals.
- Set up and operate all S-Head machines as directed by procedures and supervisors.
- Operate safely according to Merit Brass safety policies.
- Follow all production procedures and work instructions.
- Understand and utilize scanning procedures to start and end production jobs using the data collection system.
- Perform functions on the S-Head threading machine, including changing chasers and using the touchscreen.
- Operate multiple machines to meet expectations.
- Load and unload stainless parts carefully to prevent mixing of mill and heat numbers.
- Inspect and record quality according to specifications and procedures.
- Perform visual quality inspections for issues like torn or crooked threads.
- Perform preventive maintenance and repairs as needed per shift, week, or supervision instructions.
- Maintain daily housekeeping and organization in the department.
- Collaborate with others and work independently to improve safety, quality, productivity, and cost control.
- Perform other duties as needed to ensure department and company success.
Requirements:
- High school diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent.
- 30-day transition period from current role to set-up/operator responsibilities, including exit conversations.
- Basic computer skills, including Windows operation and data entry.
- Ability to read scales/rulers up to 1/32 and basic inspection gauges (rings, calipers, etc.).
- Excellent work habits: punctuality, attendance, and strong work ethic.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively to improve company operations.
- Physical ability to stand, bend during entire shift, lift 50-70 lbs. frequently, push/pull carts up to 200 lbs., and perform fine hand manipulations.
- Willingness to improve oneself and adapt in a fast-paced, changing environment.
- Availability to work overtime as required by supervisors.
