Primary Responsibility

The Utility Machine Operator is responsible for operating various production machinery as assigned by the Supervisor and according to the daily production schedule. Safely operates corrugated converting equipment including the Window Film, Flatbed Die Cutter, and Curtain Coater machine, ensuring high-quality corrugated packaging and products are produced at a consistent rate within established standards, goals, and customer specifications.

Secondary Responsibilities
  • Safely start up, set up, operate, and perform necessary machine adjustments while adhering to safety, quality, and production procedures.
  • Follow all safety policies, rules, regulations, and guidelines; use situational awareness to identify unsafe behaviors and conditions; wear PPE; notify supervisor of unsafe conditions.
  • Perform quality checks, monitor production, and ensure standards meet customer specifications.
  • Detect malfunctions, perform adjustments and troubleshooting, and record defects or non-conforming items.
  • Perform routine cleaning and preventative maintenance, and troubleshoot machinery issues.
  • Communicate issues with machinery to maintenance technicians and work collaboratively to resolve issues.
  • Record production notes accurately, including start-up, downtime, raw materials, and waste.
  • Guide and instruct machine crew to meet quality and speed standards.
  • Communicate effectively with upstream and downstream teams to improve safety, quality, and efficiency.
  • Seek and adopt process updates and improvements.
  • Maintain machines and work areas within GMP and GFSI standards, assisting in food safety compliance.
  • Maintain a clean work environment following the 5S system.
Machine-Specific Responsibilities
Window Machine
  • Feed corrugated sheets, perform adjustments, load WIP tags, and perform routine cleaning and maintenance.
Flatbed Die Cutter
  • Set up and operate the die cutter, inspect dies, and ensure proper alignment and operation.
Curtain Coater Machine
  • Measure sheets, operate wax coater, record job details, and verify materials match specifications.

Operators may cross-train and perform other duties as assigned. They should be capable of leading a crew and responding to instructions from supervisors.

Qualifications

Education and Experience: High school diploma or GED; 1 year in manufacturing or production, including 3-6 months of machine operation; experience in a corrugated plant preferred. Basic computer skills and mechanical aptitude required.

Language Skills: Ability to read, understand, and communicate effectively in English, both written and spoken.
