Job summary

Responsibilities

  • Perform inbound, outbound, pre-delivery (PDI), and quality inspections on heavy construction equipment.
  • Inspect mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and structural systems to verify specs.
  • Identify deficiencies, damage, wear, and safety concerns; document findings.
  • Safely operate equipment to verify performance and readiness.
  • Ensure customer-requested modifications and decals are completed correctly.
  • Complete inspection reports and documentation using company systems.
  • Support resolution of quality issues and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Coordinate daily workflow and inspection priorities with the team.
  • Coach and support inspectors to maintain a collaborative team environment.
  • Work with customers and internal departments to ensure timely, high-quality delivery.

Position: Machine Inspection Assistant Team Lead

Location: Rincon, GA


Job Type: Full-time, Non-exempt, 100% On-site


Pay Rate: $25.00 per hour


Hours: M-F, 7:00 AM-3:30 PM Eastern Time


Position Summary

Aertssen is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Machine Inspection Assistant Team Lead to join our growing team. The Assistant Team Lead supports the Machine Inspection Team Lead in leading daily inspection operations while actively performing machine inspections and quality assessments. This role is responsible for ensuring heavy construction equipment meets safety, quality, customer, and regulatory requirements prior to delivery, storage, or operation.


The Assistant Team Lead serves as a working leader, providing guidance, training, and day-to-day support to Machine Inspectors while helping to maintain productivity, quality standards, and operational efficiency. In the absence of the Machine Inspection Team Lead, this role assumes leadership responsibilities to ensure operational continuity. The Machine Inspection Assistant Team Lead position is considered safety-sensitive.*


Responsibilities


  • Perform inbound, outbound, pre-delivery (PDI), and quality inspections on heavy construction equipment.

  • Inspect mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and structural systems to verify equipment meets manufacturer and customer specifications.

  • Identify equipment deficiencies, damage, wear, and safety concerns, and document findings accurately.

  • Safely operate equipment to verify performance and operational readiness.

  • Ensure customer-requested modifications, decals, and special requirements are completed correctly.

  • Complete inspection reports, photographs, and documentation using company systems.

  • Support the resolution of quality issues and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Assist the Machine Inspection Team Lead with coordinating daily workflow and inspection priorities.

  • Coach and support fellow inspectors while helping maintain a collaborative team environment.

  • Work closely with customers and internal departments to ensure equipment is delivered on time and to the highest quality standards.

  • Promote a culture of safety by following OSHA, company, and customer requirements.

  • Maintain clean, organized, and professional work areas.

Required Competencies

Technical Competencies


  • Strong mechanical knowledge of heavy construction and industrial equipment.

  • Knowledge of hydraulic, electrical, mechanical, and assembly systems.

  • Experience performing equipment inspections, testing, troubleshooting, and condition assessments.

  • Ability to safely operate various types of heavy equipment.

  • Proficiency with inspection and measurement tools, including calipers and torque wrenches.

  • Working knowledge of equipment safety requirements and industry regulations.

  • Attention to detail and accuracy in reporting, recordkeeping, and data entry.


Required Qualifications


  • High School Diploma or GED required.

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in heavy equipment inspection, maintenance, repair, or a related field.

  • Experience working with heavy construction or industrial equipment required.

  • Previous experience as a lead, trainer, mentor, or team coordinator preferred.

  • Commitment to following safety procedures, company policies, and operational guidelines without shortcuts.

  • A current, valid driver's license with an insurable driving record is required.


Physical Requirements


  • Ability to safely lift, push, and/or pull up to 50 pounds.

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and perform physical work throughout the workday.

  • Ability to climb up, under, around, and over large equipment.

  • Ability to safely work at heights up to 30 feet while following required safety procedures.

  • Ability to work in small or confined spaces and tight loading areas while maintaining situational awareness.

  • Ability to work outdoors year-round and in non-climate-controlled warehouse environments.

  • Ability to operate heavy equipment safely and effectively.


Safety-Sensitive Position Designation*

This position is designated as a safety-sensitive role. The essential functions of this position include the operation of heavy machinery, construction equipment, powered industrial trucks (including forklifts), or the supervision of employees performing such duties. Performance of these duties while impaired could present a substantial risk of serious injury to the employee or others.
