Qualifications

Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering required.
2+ years in machine design or automated equipment engineering.
Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling; SolidWorks strongly preferred.
Experience with friction stir welding, robotic fixtures, waterjet cutting and trimming, drilling and defastening, automated fastening, and sealant/adhesive dispensing.
Strong understanding of mechanical components, motion systems, and manufacturing processes.
Able to troubleshoot mechanical issues and support hands‑on testing.
Clear communication skills and ability to work effectively with engineering, manufacturing, and operations teams.
Strong attention to detail, organization, and project ownership.
Capable of working independently and as a team member.
Strong work ethic and unwavering integrity.
Excellent interpersonal skills and a learning mindset.
Curiosity, problem solving, and analytical thinking.
Effective verbal and written communication.

Responsibilities

Design and develop custom machinery and automated systems for advanced manufacturing applications.
Engineer mechanical solutions involving friction stir welding, robotic fixtures, waterjet cutting, drilling/defastening, automated fastening, and sealant/adhesive dispensing.
Create detailed 3D models, assemblies, and engineering drawings to support fabrication and integration.
Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to ensure designs meet performance, safety, and manufacturability requirements.
Support prototype builds, testing, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of machine designs.
Contribute to equipment specifications, component selection, and design documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
Work collaboratively with suppliers and Applied partners.
Contribute to projects that impact communities in the Twin Cities metro.
