Health & Human Services Commission (HHSC) seeks a Licensed Vocational Nurse II for Kerrville State Hospital. This full-time role at a psychiatric facility involves administering medications, providing skilled nursing care, and training staff to support patients with complex mental health needs.

The position requires LVN licensure in Texas, six months’ LVN experience (twelve months preferred), and CPR certification. Working hours include day shifts with potential overtime and rotating shifts.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an Accredited LVN program.
• Minimum six months’ employment experience as an LVN is required; twelve months is preferred.
• Six months of experience working or volunteering directly with persons with mental illness preferred.

Responsibilities

• Administers medications and treatments orally, rectally, internally, or by injection. Assists other medical staff in examining and caring for patients.
• Trains/instructs new LVN staff to perform nursing functions at the hospital, including acclimating them to the individuals, and describing their needs and preferences.
• Performs complex and technical nursing procedures according to facility and state regulations such as wound care, breathing treatments.
• Monitors individuals’ weight, diet, meals, and vital signs. Monitors health status after medication administration, treatments and procedures.
• Timely and accurately documents pertinent treatments and observations in the medical record.
