Job summary

Blue Origin is seeking a Continuous Improvement Engineer to drive operational excellence across production and integration operations. You will lead cross-functional teams, apply Lean and Six Sigma to reduce waste, improve safety and quality, and deliver measurable cost savings.

The role spans multiple manufacturing areas with a focus on high-mix/low-volume aerospace production environments. Responsibilities include leading kaizen events, building dashboards, and mentoring teams while reporting

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years in a manufacturing engineering role (Sr Manufacturing Engineer).
  • 5+ years in continuous improvement, manufacturing engineering, quality or operations excellence in aerospace/defense or a similarly complex environment.
  • Proven track record leading CI projects with measurable safety, quality, delivery or cost gains.
  • Proficient in lean manufacturing principles and tools (value stream mapping, 5S, kaizen, standard work, visual management).
  • Ability to analyze data, identify root causes, and implement sustainable corrective actions.
  • Strong facilitation, coaching, and change management skills with cross-functional influence.

Responsibilities

  • Identify, scope, and lead CI projects across vehicle integration, fabrication, and assembly.
  • Facilitate kaizen events, value stream mapping, and rapid improvement workshops.
  • Develop and maintain performance metrics and dashboards; perform regular data analysis.
  • Apply lean Six Sigma methodologies to drive process optimization and defect reduction.
  • Coach manufacturing engineers, technicians, and leadership on CI tools and mindset.
  • Lead root cause analysis and corrective actions for recurring issues; ensure sustainable countermeasures.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, and Operations during Production Readiness Reviews and new product introductions.
  • Track improvement status and benefits realization; report in weekly business reviews.
  • Benchmark best practices and scale improvements across the site.
  • Support the operational excellence roadmap aligned with mission objectives.
