Job summary

Lunar Outpost in the United States is seeking a Task and Motion Planning Engineer to shape autonomous systems for lunar rovers and orbital assets. You will design, develop, and implement software that enables coordination of cross-domain autonomy in space exploration.

Join a cross-disciplinary team to push the boundaries of autonomy, contribute to field tests and simulations, and help integrate planning algorithms with hardware.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Robotics Engineering, or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in autonomy software for autonomous systems (navigation, perception, or belief space planning).
  • Proficiency in C++, Python and ROS; strong understanding of autonomy software.
  • Experience with multi-agent coordination and motion planning methods.
  • Excellent cross-disciplinary communication and teamwork, agile mindset.
  • U.S. citizenship or right to work in the U.S.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development of decentralized decision-making algorithms for lunar rover and orbital assets.
  • Develop and implement robust software for autonomous operations in challenging lunar environments.
  • Collaborate with systems, mechanical, electrical, and thermal teams to integrate autonomy software with hardware.
  • Utilize simulation techniques to improve autonomous system performance and reliability.
  • Conduct field tests and simulations to validate and refine algorithms and software systems.
  • Ensure software systems adhere to industry standards for safety, reliability, and performance in space exploration contexts.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, including ICDs and verification plans.
  • Participate in design reviews, trade studies, and technical risk assessments.
  • Stay at the forefront of autonomy and robotics technology and incorporate advancements.
