Job summary

UFP Industries is seeking an employee to grade and sort lumber according to TP/SPIB standards, move materials, and stake productive workflows. This role emphasizes accuracy in labeling and quantities, inventory control, and adherence to safety practices.

Minimal formal education is required; certifications in lumber grading are preferred, with training available. The position offers an hourly wage with benefits and opportunities for advancement within the company.

Qualifications

• High school diploma/GED preferred but not required.
• Certification in lumber grading preferred, but non-certified graders will be considered if in training.
• No minimum experience required, manufacturing or lumber experience preferred.
• 1–2 years of lumber grading experience preferred.
• Working knowledge of basic math preferred.

Responsibilities

• Grade and sort softwood SPF and SYP per TP/SPIB inspection requirements.
• Move and secure lumber and materials per instructions.
• Stack finished products per bundle sizes and customer requirements.
• Label material by type, size and count per specs.
• Apply tags to material before/after treating/production.
• Use staple gun and troubleshoot equipment.
• Band and secure material, attach corner protectors and loading sticks.
• Follow stacking instructions per policy and customer needs.
• Ensure correct quantities and labeling before leaving work area.
• Maintain inventory of tags and report discrepancies to supervisor.
• Record production on production sheets.
• Keep work area clean and organized.
• Assist other areas with material movement and loading/unloading.
• Participate in safety, CI and other meetings.

Job Summary

Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Works under immediate supervision.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities

• Grades and sorts of softwood SPF and SYP in accordance with third party TP / SPIB inspection requirements
• Moves and secures lumber products and other materials according to instructions
• Stacks finished products according to predetermine bundle sizes and/or customer requirements
• Labels material based on type, size and count, and following specifications
• Applies individual tags to material before/after treating/production
• Uses a staple gun and troubleshoots equipment
• Bands, bundles and secures material, including attaching corner protectors and loading sticks
• Follows instructions for stacking material properly and according to company policy and customer requirements
• Ensures correct quantities and material are strapped, labeled before leaving the work area
• Maintains accurate inventory of tags and reports any problems or discrepancies to supervisor
• Records production on production sheets
• Maintains a clean and organized work area
• Assist other work areas moving material, loading and unloading material carts
• Participates in safety, CI and other programs and meetings

Qualifications

• High school diploma/GED is preferred but not required.
• Certification in lumber grading preferred, however non-certified graders will be considered if already in process of training and can be certified
• No minimum experience is required, but manufacturing or lumber experience is preferred
• 1-2 years of related experience in lumber grading is preferred
• Working knowledge of basic math preferred
• Must be at least 18 years of age.

Compensation & Benefit Information

Hourly/Salary Pay Range: $20.00 - $22.00 an hour dependent on experience*

*pay range may be adjusted depending on cost of living

Bonus/Incentive Pay:

Incentive pay may be available for certain job roles and may include piece rate incentives, weekly production bonuses, trip rates, and employee referral bonuses. A discretionary annual bonus based on Company and business unit performance may also be provided.
