Job summary

Cargomatic, based in San Francisco, seeks an experienced Freight Operations professional to source carriers, negotiate rates, and manage lanes across FTL, OTR, and LTL. You will live on load boards, price opportunities, and turn quotes around quickly to secure capacity while protecting margins.

This role requires hands-on carrier sourcing, strong negotiation instincts, and proficiency with load boards and TMS.

Qualifications

2+ years in freight brokerage, carrier sales, or transportation operations with hands-on carrier sourcing and rate negotiation.
Working command of load boards (DAT, Truckstop, or equivalent) and a TMS.
Comfort pricing FTL and LTL freight: lane analysis, market rates, fuel, and accessorials.
Strong negotiation instincts and the drive to cover hard freight under time pressure.
Familiarity with carrier compliance basics: insurance verification, operating authority, and FMCSA safety ratings.
Solid Excel and data fluency.

Responsibilities

Carrier sourcing and development to build contracted capacity and lean on spot market by choice.
Marketplace and capacity coverage using load boards and market pricing to secure quotes.
Pricing and quote support to return quotes quickly and secure capacity.
Maintain margin and lane discipline; flag underperformers and suggest repricing ideas.
Ensure carrier compliance: insurance, operating authority, safety ratings, and onboarding steps.
Cross-functional collaboration with sales, dispatch, and customer service to keep bookings flowing smoothly.
