LPN (PRN) (Nights) HOURS: PRN. Night shift: 7pm-7am

Responsibilities
  • One (1) year of Emergency Room experience required.
  • Assist in assessment of physical, psychological, and social dimensions of pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
  • Apply knowledge of illness, wellness, injuries and diseases, and use available resources and data in assessing and caring for patients.
  • Document and report to the physician and other appropriate persons patient condition and/or other pertinent observations as well as response to nursing and/or medical intervention.
  • Assess and report to the Charge Nurse or Physician, cardiac arrhythmias, respirator status and complications that require therapy to offset catastrophic or life‑threatening events.
  • Assist in planning and documenting care based on nursing assessment and apply knowledge of specific illnesses, injuries, diseases, human behavior and appropriate standards of care.
  • Assist in and directly participate in implementing the plan of care.
  • Implement clinical and technical aspects of care and nursing orders in accordance with established critical care policies and procedures; intervene with proper techniques, procedure and safety precautions to meet individual patient needs.
  • Evaluate effectiveness of self, care given by peers, environment and instrumental in progressing patient toward outcomes.
  • Demonstrate competency in performing or assisting in treatments and medications such as basic nursing procedures (catheterization, suctioning, etc.). Application of cardiac monitoring equipment; administer oral, rectal, sublingual, external, subcutaneous, intradermal and intramuscular medications; mix, hang, and regulate appropriate I.V. drips under the direction of a Registered Nurse.
  • Participate in patient teaching and discharge plan by identifying risk factors and pathophysiology of patient’s illness.
  • Document and report to other appropriate persons patient condition and/or pertinent observations as well as response to nursing or medical interventions.
  • Respect dignity and confidentiality of patients and provide support for emotional needs.
  • Assist in maintaining a clean, safe environment for patients and co‑workers.
  • Perform efficiently in emergency patient situations following established protocol, remaining calm, informing appropriate persons and documenting events.
  • Demonstrate sound knowledge base and actions in the care of critically ill patients.
  • Be responsible at all times to a Registered Nurse but also accountable for own conduct; promote good interpersonal relationships with patients, visitors, and other hospital personnel.
  • Assist with orientation of new personnel.
  • Demonstrate awareness of legal issues in all aspects of patient care and unit function.
  • Participate in development of ER nursing goals.
  • Participate in and support research and/or quality assurance programs and activities.
  • Demonstrate effective communication methods and skills, using lines of authority appropriately.
  • Formulate and use effective working relationships with all health care team members, patients, and significant others.
  • Remain flexible in staffing patterns and resolutions of staffing conflicts; participate in temporary assignment measures of the department of nursing.
  • Participate in continuing education programs as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
