Responsibilities

• Direct the day-to-day functions of the nursing assistants in accordance with current rules, regulations, and guidelines.
• Ensure that all nursing personnel comply with the facility's written policies and procedures.
• Periodically review department policies, procedures, and job descriptions; make revisions as needed.
• Meet with nursing staff and support personnel to plan shifts, services, and activities.
• Keep the Nursing Service Procedures Manual current and ensure staff adherence.
• Submit written and oral reports/recommendations about shift activities as required.
• Coordinate nursing services with other resident care to maintain the resident's total regimen of care.
• Admit, transfer, and discharge residents as required.
• Complete accident/incident reports and forward to the Administrator.
• Chart and document resident care and maintain accurate records.
• Prepare and administer medications as ordered by the physician.
• Verify resident identity before administering medications.
• Maintain narcotic records accurate for the shift and report discrepancies.
• Review medication orders and ensure corrections and stop orders are applied.
• Dispose of drugs and narcotics per established procedures.
• Provide leadership and supervision to nursing personnel on the unit/shift.
• Conduct daily rounds to ensure nursing staff perform at acceptable standards.
