Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) — Medical-Surgical / Inpatient (Harrison, AR)

As a Med-Surg LPN at North Arkansas Regional Medical Center (NARMC), you’ll deliver safe, evidence-based bedside care—coordinating vitals, medications, comfort measures, and patient education—while partnering with RNs, hospitalists, and the interdisciplinary team to drive excellent outcomes.

Job Summary

Provide direct patient care on a Medical‑Surgical unit under the supervision of Registered Nurses and licensed providers. Monitor and document status, administer medications within scope, assist with procedures, reinforce education, and collaborate to execute the plan of care.

Key Responsibilities

Patient Care & Monitoring

  • Trend vitals (pain, SpO2 weights, I&O) and report changes promptly.
  • Perform focused assessments and contribute to the RN care plan.
  • Provide/document ADLs, safe patient handling, and fall‑prevention practices.
  • Collect/label specimens per policy.

Medication Administration & Procedures

  • Administer oral/topical/enteral/inhaled/IM/SQ and permitted IV meds; manage IVPB/infusions and site care per competency/policy.
  • Perform POC glucose testing; recognize/respond to hypo/hyperglycemia per protocol.
  • Perform wound care, urinary catheter care/straight caths, NG/enteral care, oxygen therapy, and routine procedures per competency.
  • Recognize basic arrhythmias on telemetry; start first‑line interventions and notify RN/provider.

Communication, Education & Collaboration

  • Give clear SBAR handoffs; elevate concerns to RN/Charge as needed.
  • Reinforce patient/family education on meds, condition, safety, and discharge instructions.
  • Coordinate with physicians, RNs, therapy, dietitian, case management, pharmacy, and ancillary teams.
Job Qualifications

Required

  • Current Arkansas Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license.
  • BLS (AHA or equivalent).
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English and communicate effectively with patients, families, and the care team.
  • Successful completion of NARMC pharmacology assessment (greater or equal to 80%) after orientation.

Preferred

  • ACLS and PALS (or obtained within 12 months based on unit need).
  • Prior acute‑care/Med‑Surg experience.
  • Skill recognizing cardiac arrhythmias and responding appropriately.
Compensation & Schedule
  • Job type: Full‑time (PRN/part‑time may be considered)
  • Shifts: 12‑hour days or nights with rotating weekends/holidays; occasional float to like units
  • Pay: Competitive base pay with applicable shift differentials (details during interview)
