Job summary

Instrata Technologies, LLC. seeks a skilled Technician to install, test, and troubleshoot a range of communication systems on commercial sites in the Tidewater area. You will interpret blueprints, lead cable installations, and perform terminations with precision, mentoring junior installers and planning weekly material needs.

You will handle practical tasks from fiber optics to access control, ensure safety and standards, and collaborate with project leads to deliver high-quality results on time.

Qualifications

• 1–2 years of low-voltage installation experience in commercial construction.
• Knowledge of color codes (4- and 25-pair) and cable termination methods.
• Familiarity with cabling codes, standards, and tools for structured installations.
• Ability to interpret schematics and work independently or under guidance.
• Basic use of smartphones, tablets, and cable test equipment.
• Comfortable with Office 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Familiarity with Smartsheet and other project tracking tools.

Responsibilities

• Install with confidence: termination of Coax, UTP, DAS, AV, multiconductor, access control, intrusion detection, and fiber cables.
• Test and troubleshoot with copper and fiber test equipment to resolve performance issues.
• Interpret and implement drawings, specifications, and job scopes accurately.
• Plan ahead for weekly labor and material needs.
• Support team efficiency by building daily to-do lists and enforcing standards.
• Upgrade infrastructure with retrofits and device enhancements.
• Lead field execution and assist in laying out cable pathways with minimal direction.
• Install equipment such as switches, cameras, and UPS systems.
• Report daily progress to Project Leads and track materials.
• Maintain safety, professionalism, and site cleanliness; represent the company proudly.
• Support compliance with OSHA 10 and Instrata standards; collaborate with Leads and Foremen.
