Job summary

TerraPower is seeking a Loop Engineer to oversee the configuration, operation, and performance of sodium test loops supporting Natrium development and validation activities at TerraPower's test facilities. You will work with Natrium system engineers, safety analysis, and operations staff to ensure safe, efficient tests with high data quality.

Responsibilities include refining loop configurations, supporting P&ID development, conducting thermal-hydraulic analyses, and maintaining procedures.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Nuclear Engineering, or related discipline.
• Typically 3–8 years of relevant thermal-hydraulic or high-temperature loop experience.
• Strong understanding of fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and thermodynamics.
• Experience with MATLAB, Modelica, or similar tools.
• Ability to perform engineering calculations with clear assumptions.
• Familiarity with P&IDs, equipment sizing, and piping design.
• Excellent written and verbal communication for cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Refine sodium test loop configurations to Natrium operating conditions.
• Support P&ID development and facility integration.
• Perform steady-state and transient analyses to define test envelopes.
• Calculate pressure drops, flows, and thermal profiles.
• Define test parameters and required measurement accuracy.
• Develop operating procedures and start-up/shutdown sequences.
• Provide engineering support during tests and troubleshoot.
• Monitor loop parameters for plan compliance.
• Diagnose issues in pumps, heaters, valves, and sensors.
• Ensure compliance with safety bases and codes.
• Maintain configuration control of hardware and software.
• Prepare technical reports translating results to design teams.
• Collaborate with vendors on sodium-compatible equipment.
