Job summary

TerraPower in Wyoming is seeking a Loop Engineer for the Test and Fill Facility to configure, operate, and optimize sodium test loops supporting Natrium development. You will collaborate with Natrium system engineers and safety teams to plan tests, ensure high data quality, and maintain safety standards.

Responsibilities include loop configuration refinement, procedure development, and real-time diagnostics during test runs, with emphasis on safety, data integrity, and system performance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Nuclear Engineering or related discipline.
• Typically 38 years of relevant experience in thermal-hydraulic systems, test facilities, nuclear/industrial processes or high-temperature loops.
• Strong understanding of fluid mechanics, heat transfer and thermodynamics with practical loop design experience.
• Experience with system modeling/analysis tools (e.g., MATLAB, Modelica, or similar).
• Ability to perform and document engineering calculations with clear assumptions and rationale.
• Familiarity with P&ID, equipment sizing/selection and basic piping design.
• Strong problem solving and troubleshooting capability in complex, integrated systems.
• Effective technical communication, both written and verbal, with cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Refine sodium test loop configurations to represent Natrium operating conditions.
• Support P&ID development, equipment layout, and integration with facility utilities.
• Perform steady-state and transient system analyses of sodium loops to define operating envelopes.
• Calculate pressure drops, flow distribution, and thermal profiles for test objectives.
• Develop test matrices and measurement accuracy requirements.
• Develop and maintain operating procedures, start-up/shutdown sequences, and abnormal event responses.
