Job summary

Duties

Job Responsibilities

The Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) provides evaluation, intervention, and consultation services to support students with comprehensive needs (JK-8), students in the district's early childhood programs, and additional speech and language roles as needed. In addition to direct speech and language services, the SLP will serve as a co-teacher and co-leader within the comprehensive support classroom, collaborating with staff to design, implement, and monitor programming that promotes communication, inclusion, and student growth. This role requires a balance of clinical expertise, instructional leadership, and collaboration with staff, families, and community partners.

Essential Job Functions

Instruction & Intervention

• Provide direct and consultative speech and language services aligned to each student’s IEP.
• Design and implement communication systems, including augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) and other assistive technologies.
• Support staff in embedding communication goals and strategies across the school day.
• Collaborate in the development of functional communication, social interaction, and daily living skills.

Assessment & IEP

• Conduct evaluations to determine speech and language needs.
• Develop, maintain, and update IEPs in compliance with state and federal regulations.
• Collect and analyze progress-monitoring data; adjust interventions accordingly.
• Serve as co-teacher/co-leader within the comprehensive support classroom team.
• Help oversee and train instructional assistants in communication supports and classroom strategies.
• Partner with general-education teachers to foster inclusive practices and specially designed instruction.
• Facilitate problem-solving and professional development related to communication and inclusion.
• Serve as LEA on an as needed basis at IEP meetings.

Early Childhood Support

• Provide speech and language therapy and consultation in early childhood settings.
• Collaborate with early childhood staff to design play-based interventions, early communication supports, and inclusive opportunities.
• Partner with families to support early identification and intervention for speech and language needs.
• Serve as a team member on the Early Childhood Evaluation Team.

Family & Stakeholder Communication

• Maintain regular communication with parents/guardians, ensuring families understand and can support communication strategies at home.
• Collaborate with administrators, staff, and outside providers to ensure coordinated services.

Other Duties

Perform additional duties relevant to the scope of the position as assigned by administration.
