Job summary

The Chester County Intermediate Unit seeks a Long-term Substitute Itinerant Hearing Support Teacher to serve deaf or hard of hearing students from birth through age 21 within the Division of Student Services.

This temporary position begins January 2026 and extends through April 2026, with a possible extension. Requires PA Certification as Teacher of Deaf/Hearing Impaired; offers a professional environment and competitive compensation.

Qualifications

  • Valid PA Certification as Teacher of Deaf/Hearing Impaired is required.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Dual certification - Deaf & Hard of Hearing and Special Education preferred.
  • PA Criminal History clearance, Child Abuse clearance and FBI Fingerprint clearance (dated within the year).
  • Clearance as an MA provider by the Commonwealth of PA and federal government (conducted by CCIU upon hire).

Responsibilities

  • Provide hearing support to deaf/hearing impaired students referred by districts and pre-school programs.
  • Plan or adapt educational programs to enable deaf and hearing impaired students to benefit from instruction.
  • Assess and teach deaf and hearing impaired students; develop IEPs; support technology and accommodations; educate students on hearing loss impact; consult with teachers to implement strategies and accommodations.
