Job summary

FedEx Freight in Roanoke is seeking a hands-on supervisor to lead and develop a team, ensuring all shipments move on time and damage-free. You will supervise daily operations, plan manpower, and coordinate with customers and service partners to uphold service standards.

The role emphasizes safety, cost-conscious process improvements, and effective communication. Strong knowledge of logistics, DOT/OSHA rules, and MS Office is preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Must be able to travel as needed.
• Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
• Thorough knowledge of LTL industry, DOT/OSHA/HazMat rules, NMFC and tariffs.
• Able to work independently and as part of a team.
• Multi-tasking ability and strong organizational skills.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Internet.

Responsibilities

• Lead, manage, educate and develop company employees focusing on retention and growth.
• Supervise and direct employee work with a focus on quality, customer deliverables and safety performance.
• Educate employees on unsafe acts/conditions and apply corrective actions as needed.
• Plan daily manpower needs and schedules to ensure timely freight delivery and pickup.
• Communicate job assignments clearly and coordinate with all employees.
• Monitor service freight and ensure cut time compliance.
• Identify opportunities to cut costs and improve efficiencies while maintaining safety standards.
• Assist customers with rate quotes, claim information and setting appointments.
• Monitor performance data and gather information for reporting.
• Build relationships with business partners to meet service standards.
• Identify freight with incorrect weight and classification.
• Ensure OS&D is identified and processed properly.
• Perform administrative functions as required.
• Comply with laws, regulations and company policies.
