Job description

IRISS is seeking an experienced Logistics Supervisor to support our Operations and Logistics team in Bradenton, Florida.

The Logistics Supervisor leads daily customer shipment execution at IRISS, ensuring orders are picked, packed, documented, and dispatched in line with customer delivery requirements and approved priorities. The role maintains visibility of orders due, hot orders, past-due shipments, partial shipments, and holds, and drives timely follow-up with upstream teams to remove barriers to shipping.

Working with Planning, Production, Quality, Warehouse, Sales, Customer Service, Finance, and freight providers, the supervisor coordinates shipment readiness, packaging, carrier pickups, and delivery exceptions. The role leads assigned shipping personnel and improves shipment accuracy, delivery reliability, freight performance, and packaging quality.

Primary Responsibilities
Daily Customer Shipment Planning and Execution
  • Prepare and maintain a daily customer shipment plan showing order lines, quantities, required delivery dates, latest ship dates, readiness, holds, carriers, and responsible owners.
  • Confirm shipping requirements, destination, transit time, carrier cutoff, and pickup arrangements; coordinate picking, packing, staging, and dispatch to meet the plan.
  • Lead a daily shipment readiness review and track progress through dispatch. Identify missed shipments, record causes, and establish recovery actions and dates.
  • Publish end-of-day shipment results against plan, open exceptions, and the next day readiness outlook; keep Sales and Customer Service informed of delivery risks.
Upstream Coordination and Shipment Readiness
  • Drive daily follow-up with Planning, Production, Quality, and Warehouse to secure completion, inspection release, material availability, and packaging readiness for scheduled shipments.
  • Track each shipment blocker with an owner, action, and committed completion time; escalation risks before carrier cutoffs or customer commitments are missed.
  • Validate that ERP availability reflects physically available, releasable stock. Resolve picking, quantity, location, and order-status discrepancies with the responsible teams.
  • Coordinate completed orders through final inspection, staging, and dispatch so ready-to-ship product does not remain idle.
Hot Orders and Past-Due Priorities
  • Follow the approved priority list for hot orders and past-due shipments; align execution with Planning and Sales and resolve priority conflicts through the designated manager.
  • Maintain a past-due shipping recovery list with quantities, blockers, owners, and shipment dates. Escalate orders that cannot meet the agreed recovery plan.
Credit Holds and Partial Shipments
  • Review order and customer holds daily; coordinate with Sales and Finance or the credit owner to clarify the reason, required action, responsible person, and expected resolution date.
  • Track hold resolution through authorized release and confirm current system status before dispatch. Maintain visibility of ready orders awaiting release.
  • Identify partial shipment opportunities with Planning and Sales; confirm customer acceptance where required, order permissions, freight implications, and approval before shipping.
  • Maintain accurate shipped and remaining quantities, backorder status, and follow-up dates; communicate partial shipment details to Sales and Customer Service.
Freight Coordination and Issue Resolution
  • Arrange suitable carriers and service levels within approved shipping instructions and spending authority; coordinate pickups, transit requirements, and delivery appointments.
  • Track shipments and resolve missed pickups, delays, damage, loss, shortages, and delivery discrepancies with carriers and internal teams. Communicate recovery plans promptly.
  • Maintain freight documentation, tracking details, proof of delivery, and claims evidence; follow carrier claims and billing discrepancies through resolution with Finance.
  • Monitor freight cost, premium freight, and carrier performance; recommend consolidation or service improvements while protecting customer delivery requirements.
Packaging and Shipment Quality
  • Coordinate packaging materials, labor, and equipment to support the daily shipment plan; prevent delays caused by missing cartons, pallets, labels, or protective materials.
  • Ensure packaging follows approved product and customer requirements, including protection, labeling, palletization, and secure handling. Work with Quality and Manufacturing Engineering on improvements.
  • Verify item identity, quantities, ship-to details, packing lists, and required documents before dispatch; maintain traceability and complete accurate ERP shipment transactions.
  • Investigate packing errors and transit damage with Quality and carriers; implement corrective actions to reduce recurrence, rework, and claims.
Team Leadership, Safety and Standard Work
  • Assign daily shipping work, monitor workload and progress, and train assigned employees in picking, packing, documentation, and dispatch procedures.
  • Maintain safe staging and loading practices, clear aisles, 5S, and appropriate use of handling equipment; report hazards and follow up on corrective actions.
  • Use daily performance reviews and standard work to improve shipment accuracy, productivity, and follow-through across shifts.
Qualifications and Core Competencies
  • Technical qualification or degree in logistics, supply chain, operations, or a related field, or equivalent education and relevant experience.
  • Typically, 3 to 5 years in manufacturing logistics, shipping, or warehouse operations, including supervision or team leadership.
  • Hands-on experience with customer shipment planning, freight coordination, packaging, picking and packing, shipment documentation, and issue resolution.
  • Working knowledge of ERP order and shipment transactions, inventory status, credit holds, and partial shipments; strong Excel and reporting skills. Rootstock or NetSuite experience is preferred.
  • Clear communication, attention to detail, urgency, and disciplined follow-through; ability to coordinate across functions, manage competing priorities, and lead safe daily execution.
Initial Performance Goals

During the first 90 to 180 days, the Logistics Supervisor will:

  • Establish a daily customer shipment plan and readiness review with clear upstream commitments and escalation.
  • Create trackers for hot orders, past-due shipments, holds, partial shipments, and freight exceptions with accountable owners.
  • Standardize packing, pre-dispatch checks, shipment transactions, and end-of-day reporting.
  • Baseline shipment performance, freight cost, and packaging errors; agree improvement targets and actions with Operations leadership.
Measures of Success

Shipment Execution: Daily shipping plan attainment; on-time dispatch against required ship dates; ready orders shipped without avoidable delay.

Customer Delivery: On-time delivery; hot order execution; past-due shipment reduction, shared with Planning, Production, and Sales.

Readiness and Holds: Timely closure or escalation of blockers; hold resolution visibility; accurate partial shipment and backorder status.

Freight Performance: Carrier pickup and delivery reliability; freight cost and premium freight; timely closure of claims and exceptions.

Packaging and Accuracy: Picking and packing accuracy; transit damage and claims; complete documents and accurate shipment transactions.

Team and Safety: Shipping productivity; training and standard work adherence; 5S; closure of safety actions.

Accountability

The Logistics Supervisor owns shipment execution and exception follow-up. Planning and Sales establish agreed priorities; Production and Quality confirm product readiness. Credit release, customer concessions, and premium freight follow authorized approvals. The supervisor escalates unresolved delivery risks and does not independently change customer commitments.
