Job summary

Hartzell Hardwoods, Inc. in Piqua, OH, is seeking a Logistics Specialist to support international export shipments, ocean freight bookings, container scheduling, and inbound vendor freight.

You will coordinate cross-functionally with accounting and operations to provide shipment updates. The role requires 2–5 years shipping experience, proficiency with Excel/Word/Outlook, strong data entry, and the ability to multi-task.

Qualifications

• 2 - 5 years related experience in shipping with minimum of 3 years shipping experience is desired.
• Associates degree is a plus
• Excellent data entry skills with high accuracy and detail oriented
• Use of basic math is required
• Ability to multi-task
• International documentation experience a plus
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong working knowledge in Excel, Word, and Outlook is desired

Responsibilities

• Prepares information on manifest such as name of shipper, weight, destination, and charges from bills of lading and shipper’s declaration.
• Makes bookings for export orders to but not limited to – Japan, Europe, Middle East, India and miscellaneous export markets.
• Schedule containers and drayage and coordinates shipment priorities.
• Communicate with freight forwarders and Production Team for shipment timing.
• Assists in negotiating international freight rates to determine most efficient and economical routing and mode of transportation.
• Initiates investigations into causes of damage or shortages in consignments or overcharges and prevention of detention / demurrage.
• Responsible for coordinating inbound trucking with procurement department.
• Provide shipment tracking to customers.
• Prepares invoices by figuring footages from tallies and taking dollar amounts of sale from acknowledgement, ensuring the utmost accuracy of figures.
• Obtains documents / information for customers.
• Posts transactions to accounting records such as work sheets, ledger, or computer files.
• Cross train with Shipping Coordinator & Documentation Coordinator.
• Assist Shipping Coordinator during overflow periods.
