Job summary

Sappi North America, headquartered in Boston with corporate offices in Portland, Maine, seeks a Logistics Engineer to optimize distribution, analyze routes, and partner with sales, customers, and suppliers. You will build business cases for transportation modes, manage operations, and ensure compliant, cost-efficient delivery across the network.

The role requires a bachelor’s degree in a related field, 2–7 years of experience, and strong analytical and communication skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Logistics, Business Studies, or equivalent.
• Advanced degree or Supply Chain certification preferred.
• Minimum 2 to 7 years experience with proven leadership skills.
• Knowledge of route optimization, simulation, work measurement, spreadsheet, and database analysis.
• Strong background in engineering, math, analytics, and optimization techniques.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks, self-sufficient and self-directed.
• Capable of building strong relationships across organizational boundaries.
• Familiar with logistics contracts and tariffs, warehousing, and inventory management.
• Familiarity with international logistics operations and trade compliance.
• Advanced knowledge of ERP, MES, Microsoft 365; SAP experience preferred.
• Some travel may be required.

Responsibilities

• Ensures compliance with import and export custom requirements and regulations.
• Utilizes project management and problem-solving skills to assess effectiveness of current logistics and/or transportation processes.
• Determines improvements, evaluates cost, and coordinates institutionalized change.
• Investigates and implements new technologies and information systems.
• Analyzes logistics networks, optimizing delivery times and cost of delivery.
• Analyzes vendor proposals, pricing structures, and performance criteria to make recommendations and assists with the buying of logistics services.
• Develops and maintains standard operating procedures and performance standards.
