Job summary

Sappi North America, headquartered with offices in Portland, Maine, seeks a logistics professional to coordinate import/export activities and ensure efficient finished goods flow to customers and distribution centers. Travel may be needed as part of global logistics coordination.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in SCM, Logistics, Business Studies or equivalent
• Strong quantitative and analytical skills with knowledge of logistics concepts (JIT, MRP)
• Self-starter able to work independently with attention to detail
• Broad computer skills—databases, spreadsheets, statistics, logistics software, MS Office
• Understand transportation contracts and tariffs
• Ability to communicate findings, make recommendations, and drive change
• Project management skills

Responsibilities

• Coordinate import/export logistics via ocean, air, and truck with multiple carriers from pickup to delivery
• Proactively monitor shipments from booking to delivery including record-keeping and problem resolution
• Investigate problems, determine root causes, and develop solutions
• Assess and improve current global logistics/transport processes
• Provide analytical support for projects and proposals
• Assemble data, analyze performance, and develop logistics recommendations
• Ensure transport capacity for production facilities and distribution centers
• Monitor carrier compliance with import/export regulations and contracts
• Develop SOPs and performance standards
• Coordinate global logistics issues between carriers, Inside Sales, and Outside Sales
• Evaluate providers and mill shipping performance against standards
• Create and publish logistics performance reports

Summary: The position requires coordination and close working relationships with international logistics serviceproviders, customs house brokers, customers as well as union employees within production facilities and distributioncenters. The overall objective of this position is to ensure the efficient and effective coordination of finished goods tocustomers and distribution centers while realizing cost savings and service improvements. Some travel is required.

Responsibilities

• Coordinates import and export logistics activities via ocean, air and truck with multiple carriers from point of pickup to point of delivery
• Proactively monitor import and export shipments from booking through delivery by tracking, maintaining records,and providing problem resolution as needed
• Investigates problems, finds root causes, and develops solutions
• Assesses the effectiveness of current global logistics and/or transportation processes, determines improvements,and coordinates institutionalized change
• Provides analytical support for projects, new business opportunities, and proposals
• Responsible for assembling data, analyzing performance, identifying problems, and developing recommendationswhich support the management of global logistics and supply chain operations
• Ensures transport capacity for production facilities and/or distribution centers
• Monitors contract compliance of carriers and other global logistics service providers- ensures compliance with import and export customs requirements and regulations
• Develops standard operating procedures and performance standards
• Coordination and communication of global logistics issues between logistics service providers, Inside Sales, and Outside Sales
• Evaluate global logistics service providers and mill shipping performance on a continual basis to ensure adherence to performance standards
• Create and publish reports on the performance of logistics

Minimum Education, Skills, and Knowledge Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Studies or equivalent job-related experience
• Strong quantitative and analytical skills; familiar with logistics and production planning concepts (e.g., just-in-time,materials requirement planning)
• Must be a self-starter who is able to work independently and possess the ability and desire to work effectively, withattention to detail, to meet the requirements of the position.
• Broad range of computer skills—database, spreadsheet, statistics applications, and logistics software packagesand a working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
• Understand transportation contracts and tariffs
• Ability to communicate findings, make recommendations, and facilitate change
• Comfortable working with individuals at all organizational levels
• Project management skills.
