Job summary

Shaffer Distributing Company in Columbus, Ohio is seeking an experienced Logistics Coordinator to manage third-party freight planning and execution for inbound and outbound shipments. This role requires coordinating freight from quotes through delivery, balancing cost, timing, service, and risk.

You will work with Purchasing, Parts, customers, brokers, and vendors to ensure smooth freight movement. The schedule is Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM, on-site.

Qualifications

• 2–4 years of experience in logistics coordination, transportation, dispatching, or related field.
• Strong understanding of logistics processes (BOLs, POs, drayage, intermodal, TL, LTL, white-glove services).
• Experience coordinating third-party fleets and transportation assets.
• Strong problem-solving and independent issue resolution.
• Ability to build positive relationships with internal teams and external partners.
• Proficiency with transportation, carrier, and shipping software.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate all third-party freight needs for inbound and outbound shipments.
• Use multiple software platforms to build, broker, request, confirm, and track shipping details for all parties involved.
• Own and coordinate freight requirements associated with Shaffer Purchase Orders in partnership with Purchasing.
• Own and coordinate freight requirements associated with Shaffer Parts orders in partnership with Parts.
• Independently quote, source, and select freight solutions while balancing cost, timing, service, and risk.
• Track shipments through delivery, proactively manage delays and exceptions, and ensure issues are resolved.
• Own freight claims from identification through resolution and financial recovery.
• Help develop, implement, and maintain a consistent freight claims process.
• Review freight charges against quoted rates and identify discrepancies, unnecessary charges, or opportunities for improvement.
• Monitor carrier and broker performance and escape significant cost, service, or reliability concerns.
• Analyze freight activity and performance to support cost control and service improvements.
• Improve the customer experience through proactive communication before, during, and after shipment.
• Communicate delivery timing, requirements, changes, and exceptions clearly and promptly.

We are seeking an experienced, detail-oriented and proactive Logistics Coordinator to manage third-party freight planning and execution for inbound and outbound shipments. This role will be responsible for coordinating freight from initial quoting and scheduling through final delivery, while balancing cost, timing, service, and risk.

The Logistics Coordinator will work closely with Purchasing, Parts, internal teams, customers, brokers, vendors, and manufacturers to ensure freight moves efficiently and issues are addressed proactively.

Key Responsibilities

• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to independently resolve freight-related issues.
• Comfortable building positive working relationships with internal teams and external partners.
• Proficiency with transportation, carrier, and shipping software is preferred.
