Job description

Saint Paul Commodities (SPC) is the largest independent aggregator of waste fats and oils in the United States. We source, blend, and trade waste-derived feedstocks such as used cooking oil (UCO), tallow, and other animal fats and greases that flow into renewable diesel, sustainable aviation fuel, biodiesel, and biobased products.

The Role

The Logistics Coordinator keeps products flowing over the road between our supplier network, storage and blending locations, and end customers. You will work directly with SPC's traders, tank truck carriers, terminals, and customers to schedule loads, keep paperwork clean, and fix problems before they cost us a delivery window. SPC offers a unique opportunity to learn the business from the inside out, work directly with experienced professionals, and gain exposure to areas well beyond logistics. You'll see how the pieces of a commodity trading business fit together, build relationships across the company, and could take on new challenges as your interests and skills grow. This is a fast-paced desk for someone who takes ownership, likes solving problems in real time, and wants to learn the physical side of a commodity trading business.

  • Schedule and dispatch inbound and outbound bulk liquid tank truck loads (OTR and regional) of fats, oils, and greases to match trade commitments, supplier pickups, and customer delivery requirements.
  • Tender and book loads with carriers, set and reschedule pickup and delivery appointments, track loads in transit, and enter and maintain loads in SPC's transportation management and trading systems.
  • Prepare and manage shipping documentation: bills of lading, certificates of insurance, weight tickets, quality and certificate of analysis (COA) paperwork, and sustainability and chain-of-custody documentation where required.
  • Vet and onboard carriers: confirm operating authority, insurance, and safety ratings, and maintain carrier scorecards on service, safety, and cost.
  • Manage tank truck requirements: washouts and wash tickets, seals, prior-load restrictions, heated product, and detention and demurrage at pickup and delivery.
  • Source spot capacity and negotiate truck rates with carriers when contract capacity falls short.
  • Own load-level issues from start to finish. Pull in traders, quality, accounting, and carrier partners as needed to resolve delays, rejections, and short or over shipments, and claims.
  • Find the root cause of service failures and drive corrective action with carriers and internal teams.
  • Audit carrier invoices against rate confirmations, including accessorials such as detention, washouts, layovers and support accounting with accruals and freight cost questions.
  • Build and maintain operational reports on load volumes, on-time pickup and delivery, carrier performance, and freight cost per load and per pound.
  • Support special projects as assigned by leadership and help train and mentor newer team members as the logistics group grows.
  • Ad Hoc work as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Associate or bachelor's degree preferred, ideally in supply chain, logistics, business, or a related field.
  • 1 to 3 years in logistics, freight brokerage, dispatch, or transportation coordination preferred. Experience with bulk liquid or tank truck freight is a strong plus.
  • Working knowledge of trucking operations, including FMCSA carrier requirements, hours of service, and common accessorial charges.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy. Documentation errors in this business cost real money.
  • Strong written and verbal communication with carriers, customers, and internal teams.
  • Comfort working independently under pressure in a high-volume environment where plans change during the day.
  • Working knowledge of Excel; experience with a TMS or trading/ERP system is a plus.
  • Reliable, professional, and service-oriented, with the drive to put ideas forward and improve how we work.
