Salt Lake Garfield & Western Railway is seeking a Locomotive Engineer to oversee the safe operation of locomotives and ensure adherence to FRA rules and train orders. You will inspect equipment, communicate with crew, and handle switches and railcar maintenance as needed.

The role requires reading bulletins and instructions, complying with safety protocols, and the ability to work a flexible schedule, including a 24-hour on-call cycle.

Qualifications

• 18 years of age or older.
• Valid Driver's License.
• 2 years verifiable work experience.
• Must pass all required assessments.
• Must pass a background screening.
• ERailSafe Badge required; Everifile background check.
• Federal drug/alcohol testing required.
• Color vision and hearing requirements as per FRA.
• Must meet physical requirements and flexible schedule.

Responsabilités

• Ensure compliance with train orders, signals, railroad rules, FRA regulations.
• Review dispatcher instructions and discuss with crew.
• Inspect equipment on cars prior to departures.
• Receive and transmit information by radio/telephone accurately.
• Read and understand bulletins, work orders, and switch lists.
• Assist and instruct crews to couple/uncouple cars and operate switches.
• Maintain safety with customers and rail surroundings.
• Understand color/hand signals and related systems.
• Safely operate locomotive controls and gauges.
• Perform maintenance on locomotive components (brakes, oil, sand, fuel).
• Comply with new railroad instructions and safety rules.
• Additional duties as assigned by management.
