Job summary

Mississippi Export Railroad Company is seeking a Locomotive Engineer to operate locomotives safely on the main line and in yards, following FRA regulations and company procedures. The role requires certification and strong mechanical aptitude, with the ability to work flexible hours and coordinate with crews.

Qualifications

• Must hold 49 CFR Part 240 Engineer Certification and 49 CFR Part 242 Conductor Certification
• Ability to complete tasks with minimal supervision
• Ability to complete and pass all railroad exams unassisted
• Ability to take directives from management and co-workers
• Demonstrate problem solving and troubleshooting skills resulting in effective resolution
• Proficient using computers, tablets, and other electronic devices, including Microsoft Word, Outlook and Google Chrome
• High School or GED required
• Valid Driver License
• Clean Motor Vehicle Driving Record
• Ability to pass FRA physical, drug and alcohol test; background check also required

Responsibilities

• Operate locomotives in accordance with FRA regulations and railroad operating rules
• Perform required equipment inspections and brake tests
• Communicate with crew regarding switching orders and movements
• Assemble and disassemble trains following blocking and hazmat rules
• Coordinate with maintenance and yard operations to ensure safe, efficient movement
• Maintain logs and documentation for trips, switches and cargo
