Job summary

Northern Plains Railroad, Inc. is seeking a Senior Locomotive Engineer to control safe train movements and ensure compliant operations. You will follow FRA rules, communicate with the Superintendent and crews, and perform switching and inspections as required.

The role requires 3+ years of locomotive engineer experience, on-call availability for 10–12 hour shifts, and strict adherence to safety and reporting standards. Competitive hourly pay and robust benefits apply.

Qualifications

• GED or higher.
• Engineer certification requirements must be fulfilled.
• Ability to read orders and schedules from dispatchers.
• Safety sensitive position will be subject to drug and alcohol screening.
• Valid driver’s license and insurable driving status are required.

Responsibilities

• Oversee safe train movements and follow FRA rules and signals.
• Communicate via train radio with Superintendent and crews.
• Ensure compliance with operating rules, policies and guidelines.
• Maintain and obtain FRA engineer certification as required.
• Read and discuss orders with crew and Dispatcher.
• Perform switching, assembling, and disassembling of trains.
• Inspect locomotives and equipment for safety compliance.
• Prepare accurate reports for Company and FRA.
