Facilities Locksmith Job Description

The facilities locksmith installs, maintains, and repairs locks and other security devices in buildings and facilities.

1. Locks: Installs, repairs, and replaces locks on doors, gates, desks, file cabinets, lockers, and other furniture and equipment.
2. Keys: Cuts new or replacement keys and maintains key systems.
3. Door closures: Repairs or replaces door closure panic hardware or ADA openers.
4. Security surveys: Performs security surveys and lays out master key systems.
5. Hardware evaluation: Evaluates hardware and advises administrators on the suitability and compatibility of locks and hardware.
6. Minor repairs: Makes minor repairs to doors, windows, file cabinets, desks, and other items.
7. Record keeping: Keeps accurate records of hardware changes, new lock installations, and key distribution and return.
8. Emergency repairs: Makes emergency repairs of locks as required.
9. Assistance during construction: Assists in the construction of new facilities by determining the requirements for locking devices and systems.

Education

High School Diploma is required.

Experience

At least 3 years of experience is required.

Certification & Licensure

Locksmith License with Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services is required within 90 days of hire. Fingerprinting is required prior to employment.
