Job summary

Job description

A well-established mixed-use commercial real estate organization is seeking an experienced In-House Locksmith to oversee the maintenance, repair, installation, and security of mechanical and electronic locking systems across a large commercial property portfolio. This role requires expertise in commercial locksmithing, master key systems, access control hardware, and life safety compliance.

The selected candidate will work alongside an existing locksmith and serve as a key contributor to the organization's physical security program. This position requires participation in an after-hours on-call rotation to respond to security incidents, lock failures, and urgent access-related issues.

Key Responsibilities

Commercial Locksmith Services

• Install, maintain, repair, and troubleshoot commercial locking systems and door hardware.
• Service cylindrical locks, mortise locks, door closers, panic hardware, exit devices, electric strikes, magnetic locks, and continuous hinges.
• Perform rekeying, cylinder pinning, key cutting, lock repairs, and hardware replacements.
• Maintain and administer master key systems, restricted keyways, and high-security cylinder programs.

Security & Access Control

• Support physical security initiatives through maintenance of mechanical and electronic locking systems.
• Assist with installation and servicing of electronic access control hardware including electric strikes, magnetic locks, and request-to-exit devices.
• Respond to lockouts, security incidents, hardware failures, and emergency access requests.
• Participate in security drills and emergency preparedness activities.

Compliance & Documentation

• Conduct routine inspections and preventative maintenance of doors, frames, hardware, and related security components.
• Ensure compliance with applicable building, fire, life safety, and accessibility requirements.
• Maintain detailed records related to key issuance, lock systems, maintenance history, security audits, and service activities.
• Partner with security personnel, contractors, project teams, and facility stakeholders on security hardware projects.
• Review plans and specifications to support new construction, renovations, and security upgrades.
• Provide guidance on physical security best practices and key control procedures.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of commercial locksmith experience.
• Strong experience with mechanical and electronic locking systems.
• Hands-on experience servicing Schlage commercial hardware products.
• Hands-on experience servicing ASSA ABLOY commercial hardware products.
• Experience with master key systems, restricted keyways, and high-security cylinder platforms.
• Knowledge of commercial door hardware, life safety requirements, and building code compliance.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
• Valid driver's license and ability to satisfy background screening requirements.

Preferred Experience

• Experience supporting large commercial, mixed-use, office, retail, healthcare, education, municipal, or institutional facilities.
• Familiarity with electronic access control systems and integrated security hardware.
• Industry certifications and advanced locksmith credentials are highly preferred.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb ladders, kneel, crouch, and work in various building environments.
• Ability to lift and carry equipment, tools, and hardware components.
• Ability to perform detailed lock and hardware repairs requiring fine motor skills and manual dexterity.
