Job summary

Sikich invites applications for the Summer 2027 Audit Intern – Local Government. This hybrid role is based in Naperville, IL and Springfield, IL, offering exposure to local government engagements under the direction of a Manager.

You will learn the audit process, test financial statements, and ensure regulatory compliance while building client relationships. The internship requires students in accounting/auditing programs, the ability to work 40 hours weekly, and a pathway toward CPA

Qualifications

• Sophomore, Junior, or Senior status at time of internship.
• Engaged in an accounting, cost accounting, or auditing program at a college or university.
• Ability to work 40 hours each week during the course of the internship.
• Interested in pursuing CPA credentials.
• Ability to work collaboratively with a varied team.
• Experienced in Microsoft Suite.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future.

Responsibilities

• Develop an understanding of the audit process for local government engagements.
• Analyze and test key elements of client financial statements.
• Perform testing to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
• Establish working relationships with client personnel.
• Collaborate with team members to deliver exceptional client service.
• Work on a variety of different accounting projects.
